🚀 Visit the Prorok Lab at the Cambridge Festival Family Open Day – Saturday 21 March 2026
The University of Cambridge Department of Computer Science and Technology will once again open the doors during the Cambridge Festival to welcome the public into the department.
Researchers in our lab will be showcasing a system that lets teams of robots carry out instructions given in plain English. The small robots listen to human voice and then complete their assigned mission completely on their own, while staying synchronized, avoiding collisions and being ready to handle disruptions
Throughout the day within the department there will be plenty to explore for younger visitors, including themed Pirate and Hacker escape rooms, hands-on coding activities, binary bracelet making where children can spell their names in the language of computers, a scavenger hunt for “computer bugs,” or solve puzzles to unlock the doors of Captain Jessie’s spaceship and help pilot it back to her home planet.
Visitors will also have the chance to meet researchers using AI to build digital tools for wellbeing and environmental decision-making, watch a live demonstration of Sonic Pi music coding software, and take part in a hands-on workshop creating music with code.
📅 Explore the full program of Computer Science activities in the Cambridge Festival schedule. Many other departments across West Cambridge — including the new Cavendish Laboratory and the Vet School — will also be open to visitors on the same day.
We hope to see you there!
